Despite the inaccuracy of the transcription, 'Cheneley D
Macadam' is
quite definitely Cheveley O[dams] Macadam, born in 1870.

|
when he was aged
50/51, Elma Alexandra Laming
(my Grandmother, and her second marriage) on 8th October
1907, at St Mary's Church, Kippington, Sevenoaks, Kent. |
|
Elma had been born in
Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, on 11th July 1844, and died in
Hindhead, Surrey in about 1967.
|
There was no issue from this marriage,
but my father Miles Frederick Ledger, her son by
her former marriage to Frederick John Ledger (who
previously was F J Heseltine, having taken his
step-father's name) took the new family name,
and also that of his mother, upon this second
marriage, becoming Miles Frederick Laming Macadam.
|
|
Miles had been born on 8th March 1909, a few months
before Evelyn, and the combined family of
four (Cheveley, Elma, Miles and Evelyn) lived at Crowborough,
in Sussex, for some years, and then
at "Westwood", Lower Bourne, Farnham, Surrey, (now
believed to be Westwood Country House B&B, Pinewood Drive
at Lower Bourne) until Cheveley, or "Grandpa Mac" as
I knew him, died on 24th February 1952. |
|
Miles married Eileen Muriel Dalby Hobson
(b 26th June 1913, d )
at St Nicholas Parish Church, Sevenoaks, Kent, on 2nd
September 1939, having brought forward the date of the
wedding by a fortnight to the day before WWII broke out,
and almost immediately was called up to serve at Bletchley
Park, using his knowledge of languages in decoding
Luftwaffe messages, before being transferred to the
Japanese section in Hut 10.
